I had the most unfortunate experience with this company.
They agreed via the telephone (even after checking with the property owner) to allow me to rent a home directly next-door for 6 months so I could undertake a remodel on my home. I forwarded the application, check for deposit, signed agreement and even offered to pay the entire 6 months rental fee up-front. I was assured by two (2) of the folks working there that everything was in order and I could move in September 1st, 2009.
Then, they got another offer of a one-year lease. I was told that I no longer met their criteria for the rental agreement. They lied to me. I contacted my attorney who wrote on my behalf. They claimed that, legally, I hadn't made it through their process yet so they could simply ignore their promises and rent the property to anyone else. While I agree that they broke no laws, I believe it's important that our community know that there are still businesses out there behaving this way. I wrote back and forth to Greg Stowe, President of Sequoia Group Property Management, and he claimed I "mis-remembered" the details of the conversations I had with his employees. It's high time people (myself included) stopped relying on good old-fashioned promises delivered to us verbally.
Renter beware here!
