Review 8/8/2011

I used this company because I had seen them at my local Costco and remembered their name. I went to their website where they had a special Tune Up promotion for $69 (normally $109). I called and set up an appointment. I mentioned that only two days prior a piece of the HAVC in an indoor closet had started making a loud noise and would not shut off after 20 mins. It rarely comes on but when it does it is for only a couple of minutes and then turns itself off. Anyway, I unplugged everything to stop the infernal noise. The A/C still worked, just the condensat pump made this loud noise. Wayne, the senior technician arrived the next day and I mentioned the noise. I opened the closet, plugged everything back into the power and he immediately pointed to the condensat pump. He didn't have to spend any time at all in diagnosing the problem, it was pretty loud and anybody could have pointed to it. Anyway, he replaced that and then unknown to me proceeded to replace dual capacitor on the condensor unit outside and charged $88. So what started as a $69 tune up ended up costing $575, $437 for the pump. When I looked around for the parts online they cost no more than $50 for the pump and $30 for the dual capacitor, exactly the same in every detail and specification. Wayne was at my house for no more than one hour.
When I called the office, I spoke to Brian, the service manager, who tried to persuade me that's what they charge in case any work they do creates a leak and damage, they had to cover themselves. They said car dealers do the same when they service a car, they add some padding. Well, in all the times I have had my dishwasher serviced, water heater replaced, faucets replaced not one person has overcharged by the amount Econo Air did. I also spoke to Raul who told his company has to cover the cost of their building, people, vans, etc. I told him that was the cost of doing business and they shouldn't INFLATE their prices and OVERCHARGE customers to cover those costs. He wasn't willing to listen. Both Brian and Raul had different stories for why they charge so much. I told both Brian and Raul that I would be WILLING TO PAY REASONABLE charges but definitely not $575. I would pay no more than $250 for the parts and labor.
Sadly, instead of Brian or Raul coming to a compromise, they have LOST A CUSTOMER, I will definitely not use them again, I will be reporting my experience back to COSTCO and will NOT RECOMMEND them to anyone else, in fact the total opposite.
I have had the most terrible experience with this company and would not use them again. I would give no stars if I could.
UPDATE: After reading the review, Raul called to apologize and put it down to a misunderstanding. I offered that we compromise on $200 to cover the tune-up, replacement parts and labor. I am glad he called and put things right. They in turn need to make their offerings a little clearer to the customer. Added two stars.
