My Mac disk drive was acting up and then later, a few external hard drives were not mounting. I'm no slouch with computers but I wanted this to be done professionally. Having checked out several places in Burbank - most notably Adam's Apple and PC repair and Melrose Mac I found them all to be overpriced either a little or a lot. GEEKsters quoted me the cheapest price without knowing what their competitors had.
As far as service most places fell into one of two categories: Disinterested computer snobs or back of the truck con-men.
Most shops had all sorts of other retail products that they were attempting to hock to pay the rent and the staff could barely take their faces off their screens long enough to refer you to another representative.
Or, you walked into a 15ft x 15ft cave with computer guts hanging from the wall and suffered the breath of the barely intelligible "expert" who considered his undershirt the only respectable business attire.
GEEKsters on the other hand presents immediately as a facility designed to do one thing: fix computers. The staff attended without hesitation and although clearly knowledgeable, they did not cram their savvy down my throat. They were quick to present me with options, some of which bravely included at-home solutions that would not have gotten them paid. I felt esteemed and valuable as a customer on my first visit.
The work itself was very prompt, (almost overnight) and as it turned out three of my four drives were salvageable. And although I do not know if this is policy, I was not charged for any work that did not produce a fixed drive.
I found GEEKsters to be the perfect balance of skill, intelligence and friendly, quick service that I, as someone who has worked internationally with both Macs and PC's for over 25 years have rarely encountered.
Oh, and I'm told they fix video games too. I might be taking my old ColecoVision to them soon. I miss playing Zaxxon...
