When I called The Wig Company in Studio City looking for products, the company referred me to the company website, where prices are published. When I saw they had what I was looking for at attractive prices, I went into the store to try the goods on and make purchases. When I did, I discovered, The Wig Company’s store prices were much higher than those on the web. When I asked the staff about the dual pricing structure, staff said the company feels that offering the customers a chance to try on the merchandise justifies charging customers, in my instance, 60 dollars more per item. The staff did say, however that I was welcome to order online. When I asked to write down the exact color and item number I had tried on so I could order the right products online, the staff seemed to refused to provide me with the information. When I demanded the store honor the prices on their website, the the store staff seemed to deny affiliation with the online counterpart their staff was all to eager to tell me about when I had phoned earlier. When I pressed them further, the staff even denied answering their phone and went so far as to deny they had a phone in the store.
I finally asked for the manager/owner who honored the web prices, but only after threatening to charge me shipping costs, despite the fact that I had driven an hour to get to the store and the fact that whatever I wanted was in stock. I refused to pay shipping and I finally got what I wanted but only after what I felt was a long, unpleasant experience.
The wig business is not strictly rooted in the theatrical and vanity worlds. People who are ill with cancer and other diseases purchase wigs to hide hair loss. The Wig Company needs to alter their practices and recognise they are, in many instances, dealing with a sensitive sector of the population.
