Credit Killer!
|
Should a collections agency be allowed to distroy a person’s credit over a $57 debt, after sending ONE notice via mail? Don’t you think it sounds like a modern day Les Miz? Well, I just got zapped by PMS—that’s not the prementrual mental disorder; it’s the logo of Progressive Management Systems. I was alerted yesterday because I get emaiil credit change notices. Otherwise I would be in the dark about having my credit plunge 26 points (you read that right—twenty-six), which dropped my credit rating from Excellent to merely Good, which means some lenders will refuse to give me certain loans. PMS (at least the clerk I spoke with) insisted it sent not only two (that’s 2) notices before socking me with a credit knockout punch, but claims I spoke wiith a clerk in January of last year, saying I told this personS I couldn’t pay the debt until June. Since I had been gravely ill for much of last year, possibly I spoke to someone from PMS and then became overwhelmed by health issues. I was in and out of the hospital several times, and the debt in question is one I owe to that hospital. Still, wouldn’t it have been good business to give me one more call before screwing up my credit? Wouldn’t it be humane to show restraint over a paltry $57? I am passing this on to the Better Business Bureau, as well as my Congresswoman. I would love to see some regulations regarding responsibility in the collections industry. Seems to me theyre so obsessed with collecting money, they forget they’re dealing with people. Rhoda G. = rhoda451@msn.com
