The first thing you should know about Pasadena Recovery Center (PRC) is that Dr. Drew from Celebrity Rehab does NOT work there. PRC leases out part of its facility to the production company to produce the show. Regular patients at PRC have NO interaction with Dr. Drew or his team. They are, however, subjected to having celebrities running around the halls with cameras chasing after the celebrities, which isn't conducive to recovery in my opinion.
My adult child was a patient at PRC. Although we have insurance, we were required to pay $1,000 as a deposit before my family member was admitted to the facility. We were told we'd get the deposit back once the insurance company paid the bill. My insurance company paid the bill in June 2011. It is now almost September 2011 and I still haven't received a refund. I've seen on other review boards, such as Yelp, that this is a pattern with PRC. The woman in accounting is always out on a family emergency or on vacation. I threatened to sue them in small claims court and their attitude seems to be "get in line." They are extremely unprofessional and gouge the family for money at every opportunity. The facility is very "loose" in terms of searching patients and guests. I attended a few meetings there with my family member and there were people nodding out at the meeting. There are also issues with privacy and confidentiality. The director of the facility responded to a complaint on a review board and actually used the reviewer's first and last name and the patient's first and last name in the response. So much for anonymity and HIPAA laws. In addition, the facility is in very bad condition with shabby chairs and furniture. You can tell that the money received for leasing out to Celebrity Rehab isn't being re-invested in the program for the regular patient. I would highly recommend that anyone considering attending this facility look elsewhere.
