Review 12/9/2008

I purchased a Norcent camera in April 2008. It is now December 2008, and my camera is having difficulty with the lense and thus will not allow me to take photos. Everytime I turn the camera on (with the battery fully charged) it turns on for about 2 seconds, then it the screen goes black because the camera will not work without the lense working properly. I have had this problem since Thanksgiving (the first time I tried to take pictures and noticed that the camera began malfunctioning). I know that I am out of time to return the camera to the store since it was purchased over eight months ago, but I also knew that it is under a year old and that means that it is still under manufacturers warranty according to the paperwork I recieved with the pruchase of the camera. Initially, I tried to contact the Norcent company by calling the phone numbers on the paperwork that came with the camera. Every number was disconnected. So, I decided to go to the website. This was the beginning of a long nightmare. The FAQ page to assist consumers reads: "This page is under construction. Please check back later". What??? For weeks now, its been saying that! It almost seems like any avenue that might be available to resolve something with an unhappy consumer, they've found a way to avoid so that they dont have to deal with us. Every phone number on the website either leads you to a voicemail that will say :we are unavailable or a nonexistent operator (ASKS TO PRESS "0" FOR AN OPERATOR AND THEN SAYS THAT THE EXTEN IS INVALID) or is also disconnected (sales and tech support phn #'s). After several days of calling, I decided to simply press any (guessed various 3 digit #'s) extension # I thought may lead to a real human so that I could find out how to go about returning my camera for repair or replacement. I must have done that 20 times and finally reached two different voicemails: one for a man named VICTOR and another for a man named PETER. I left messages and have not recieved a response from either one. My final attempt on the website was also an utter disappointment. I tried to fill out the Tech Support/ Consumer Assistance Form with my information on the "Contact Us" page, and each time I tried to submit it, it would take me to a page saying: "There is a website error. Cannot continue submission." After much frustration with perusing through that DISASTER they call a "website", I finally decided to call Walmart National (purchased at one of thier local stores) where I spoke with a young lady who really tried her best to assist me. I hadn't spoken to anyone who was trying to help me with this thus far so I was just so grateful for her concern. She said that a supervisor would call me back within 5 business days to see if they have found an alternate phone # to reach this company or to see if there is anything else they can do for me. I just became so tired and frustrated that I came to this website to voice my concern and to advise other consumers: PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT. THERE ARE TOO MANY OTHER ELECTRONIC COMPANIES OUT THERE THAT CAN SUPPLY YOUR NEEDS. I must say, that I have never written a complaint about any product or business until today. As a matter of fact, I was so upset that I registered to become a member of the BBB organization just so that I coulD leave this post for others to read and see and to hopefully not make the same mistake I did. At this point, I dont even know if I want them to repair or replace the camera becuase I keep thinking, "What if something else happens to the camera? I really DO NOT want to have to deal with this company EVER again." I have even contacted various digital camera repair companies and they either dont repair this brand of camera or they would charge atleast $150 (Rex electronic store) just to see whats wrong with it, it may cost even more than that after they find out whats wrong and make an estimate. Therefore, its not worth it to fix the camera with an outside company because, for that price, I may as well go out and buy a brand new camera.......which is what I'll more than likely end up doing anwyay!!!!! Uggghhhhhh.....what a terrible company! Please BEWARE OF NORCENT BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT BE THERE FOR YOU WHEN YOU NEED THEM! (And if I could have put Zero Stars for the Rating....trust me....I would have!)
