NATURAL BALANCE DRY DOG FOOD (DUCK & POTATO L.I.D. SMALL BREED BITES FORMULA) NEARLY KILLED MY DOG!!!!!! SHE WAS VOMITTING BLOOD & HAVING BLOODY DIARRHEA!!!
I switched my dog to Natural Balance Duck & Potato small bites dry food on 6/21/10. I immediately noticed that her stools were more moist than normal, but attributed it to her getting used to the new food. Through the next week on she gradually began to not as eagerly eat her food. On 7/8/10 I noticed that her stool had a mucus around it and the stool hadn't gotten any firmer over the nearly 2 weeks on the food, she also refused to eat her food that evening altogether. Very early on 7/9/10 my dog began to vomit clear "spit" with bright red blood in it. This happened twice within 20 minutes. She then drank water and threw it up twice almost immediately. During this time she was also having numerous wet bowel movements on the carpet. The bowel movements became more loose each time and also showed signs of blood. About an hour later she threw up again, yellow-colored plus more blood. Over the next few hours until the vet opened, her stomach grumbled and she began to uncontrollably expell gas and more liquid from her behind until the point where she was only expelling blood from her rear. I have blood stains all over my carpet (it looks like someone was murdered in my dining room!!!) and my dog was in excruciating pain!! I immediately took my dog to the vet at 8:30am when they opened (6 to 7 hours after this began) and they ran bloodwork, xrays, and testing and gave her IV fluids and antibiotics. She was not well enough to come home and was admitted overnight. The vet told me that she could have died if she hadn't been treated when she was. She was released on the morning of 7/11/10 in fair condition. The vet diagnosed her with pancreatitis caused by the Natural Balance Duck and Potato dry food. This food is dangerous and should not be sold! Google "Natural Balance" "duck" "potato" "pancreatitis" and you will see that this food has caused this problem with other animals in the past as well! If you love your pets keep them away from this horrible food! It could kill them like it almost did my poor dog!!!!
