Review 4/9/2010

On 3/31/10 I saw a 1-day-old Metro Nissan internet ad for an 09 Quest. I called once to check price, then a second time to verify that it was on the lot and available for sale. I referenced the stock number both times, so there is no question we were talking about the same vehicle. Since it was a 1 hour drive for me, I asked them to make double sure that everything was in order, then told them I was on my way. 2 minutes later, they called to inform me that they had wanted to increase the price on the vehicle, but that for me they would honor the advertised and agreed-upon price.
Just before I reached Metro Nissan, they called to inform me that the vehicle was not available for sale, and that it had just "accidentally" been covered in Nissan stickers for use as a shuttle van. This turned out to be untrue, as when we arrived they showed us all the shuttle vans and we verified (based on mileage) that none were the vehicle in question. They then changed the story, saying the vehicle we were interested in had been sold a month ago. The printout they showed us to "demonstrate" this was for a completely different vehicle, with very different mileage. Finally, they brought in the general manager, who proposed yet another explanation. He claimed that the advertisement which had brought us there, and the vehicle itself, had never existed! That, of course, is also false, and l still have the original ad saved on my computer.
I believe that the real explanation here is bait and switch advertising. They did not want to sell their “bait” vehicle for the advertised price, so they made it disappear and tried to sell me something else. I am very disappointed with the treatment I was given, the utter disregard for my wasted time and mileage, and the overall rudeness of the sales and general managers.
