I received the Magellan Roadmate 1200 for Christmas in 2007. I was so excited and in love with my unit so much to the point where I carried it wherever I went and took extremely good care of it being careful not to damage it or loose it. I used the unit on a business trip about a month ago and stored it away safely in my bag as always, away from extreme heat or cold conditions and did not take it out again until about a week ago.
I received a weird error message on my unit but thought nothing of it and simply "reset" the unit as instructed in all the online instructions. This action only caused more problems. Now when I charge the unit, it powers up but the blue screen with the brand name "Magellan" remains in a frozen state and does not go away. I tried online support as they suggest and this online support tool is absolutely horrible! No matter how may times I enter the name of my unit, the site continues to give me suggestions on resolving the problem but only for Magellan, Maestro or other GPS devices. I finally gave up and called technical support. I have yet to get a live person on the phone no matter how many attempts. The other day I was on hold for over 2 hours and finally gave up and disconnected the call. I tried to call at 7:15 am on a Monday morning, but received a message that their business hours are from 6am to 5pm Monday thru Friday. I have sent emails to tech support but no one replies to my emails. I have no way of obtaining a receipt because it was a gift and this is required information in order to return the unit for replacement or repair. So now I have a unit that is malfunctioning and I cannot contact "anyone" at Magellan online or on the phone for assistance.
If you are unlucky enough to receive a Magellan Roadmate as a gift, if I were you I would kindly decline and ask for the money instead to avoid this type of nightmare should the unit malfunction.
