My husband & I hired MS Construction to redo our kitchen & 2 bathroom floors & fixtures, install a new kitchen window & do minor electrical work to one outlet. Meir, the business owner, came out to give us his bid. We went through exactly what we wanted done & what our expectations were. We were not looking for top of the line merchandise, but more in line with functional, practical & quality for a reasonable price. Meir seemed to have his own ideas of what he wanted to get.
The job started 2 weeks late & all the materials weren't purchased, in spite of having a hefty down payment before the contract said payment was due. The kitchen floor tiles weren't the size we agreed on. There was also a shortage of tiles, because Meir hadn't taken into account the area under the refrigerator & stove or the space between the bar and the cabinets. The first day, one worker was standing around just handing the other worker floor tiles. When I came home from work, I put in a call to Meir to get both men working on laying tile. Thresholds weren't installed between rooms, even though we specifically mentioned them in our first meeting. The workers left the old ones in place & put the new tiles over them. As a result, the grout is starting to crack.
The day the plumbing work was to begin was a disaster! The bathroom sinks ordered were too big for the existing openings. One toilet seat wasn't the right size. The kitchen faucet was a very expensive brand we specifically said in our first meeting we didn't want. I had done Internet printings of both the faucet & the kitchen sink at that meeting so Meir would know exactly what we wanted. The kitchen sink hadn't been purchased or even ordered, so the job couldn't be completed. I went back over the exact kind I wanted, & was told it was a special order & would cost $600. I explained it was common & could be found at Home Depot or similar store for less than half that. I missed a half day of work to find & order it. Since we had to wait for the sink to come it, we decided to have Meir return the kitchen faucet we didn't want for a more reasonably priced one. Again I gave him exact model numbers & locations for the faucet, indicating it would probably need to be ordered. The day the sink came in, Meir went to buy the faucet & was told it would have to be ordered. He had the plumbers at the house already installing the sink, so we had no choice but the keep the original faucet.
The overall work done by Meir's workers was great. It seemed to be Meir creating all the problems. He seemed to be extremely new at this, in spite of being in business for 4 years. Whenever I mentioned something to him, it seemed to catch him by surprise, as if this were the first time he encountered it. His being totally unaware of the need to order items in advance was the biggest surprise to us. His insistence on what he wanted instead of what we wanted was a disappointment. His audacity to ask for more money when the project was completed, even though I spent many hours looking for merchandise & missing work was the greatest shock of all. He told us the job cost more than he anticipated, especially the fixtures. He didn't seem to recall we tried many times to get more reasonably priced fixtures, but couldn't get his cooperation. Again, he seemed to be so new at this whole process. It was as if this were his first job. We are extremely disappointed, & would not hire MS Construction again. I will not recommend him to anyone.
