Listed below are the complaints I had with this company (we moved in July of 2011 from L.A. to Northern California).
The only positive part of this experience was Steve, who was my contact person with LA Moving Inc. He was always very accessible, as well as courteous. I appreciated his kindness but that didn't change the fact that several things were mishandled. Also, when I relayed my complaints to him (the same ones that are listed below), he did send a partial refund of $100 due to the fact that the movers didn't re-assemble several furniture pieces as promised. The refund was appreciated, but it didn't begin to make up for the inadequate services we received (total cost was $1900 for move).
1. I asked Steve very specifically if everything would fit into the moving truck when I initially contacted the company. I gave him the square footage of our house and he reassured me that there would be no problem. I would've never chosen his company if we knew they didn't provide the appropriately sized truck. Not only did we suffer the inconvenience of our things not fitting in the truck, but we were charged an additional $400 for bringing the rest of our belongings up 2 days later. When I told Sam (one of the two movers) that Steve (the manager) had reassured me everything would fit, he simply told me that there was nothing that could be done about it except moving with additional cost to me.
In addition to this, we had just sold our large couch and large coffee table (which most people would have these furniture pieces as well); and there was still not nearly enough space.
2. Sam (one of the movers) was very rude. Upon arrival, he essentially promised to deliver on none of the promises that were verbalized to me over the phone. He said that there may not be enough space, that anything that was damaged would only be compensated 60 cents per pound, and that I had to pay cash before even one item was unloaded from truck upon arrival to new location. When I expressed concerns, especially about the space issue, he told me that if i didn't like it, they could leave. When we wanted to call Steve, he said that the contract had to be signed as is and that Steve was already aware of the size of truck and the possibility of not fitting everything.
3. The movers were extremely slow. My husband had to help them all day. They arrived at 8:30 am and didn't finish until 5:30 pm. We packed 95% of our boxes in our garage to make it easier for movers, so all they had to do was move bigger pieces and load boxes directly from garage to the truck. Even with all the pre-work we did, it still took them extremely long and my husband was forced to help them instead of help me with my two small kids move. They also asked my husband to pick up lunch for them (they paid for it but this was still unprofessional). We paid for moving services so that we wouldn't have to do all the legwork, yet my husband still had to do a ton. We moved one year ago, with even more furniture, and the movers packed and unloaded into our new house in half the time that your movers took to simply pack.
4. Several things were scuffed in the move: the side of our fridge, my nightstand, the walls of our new house (just freshly painted),.
5. Upon arrival to our new house, the movers left most of our boxes in the garage, instead of bringing them to the appropriate rooms. All boxes were clearly labeled, and my husband walked them through each room describing where things should go. They said they would do it, and didn't. We had to get people to move several boxes into our house b/c so much was left in garage.
6. The movers didn't assemble several things. Sam asked my husband if he would assemble our bed and our crib. (We were told on the phone that the rate included all disassembling and re-assembling).
7. The movers didn't unwrap anything unless my husband essentially demanded it. My husband had to ask several times for them to unwrap items. After he asked so many times with so few results he just gave up.
8. The movers left all the trash. They said that the company doesn't remove the trash they leave.
We felt like we had to babysit them every step of the way. They were slow, rude, unhelpful, and extremely unprofessional. We hired this company to ease the stress of a big move that comes with having two kids under two years old and a long trip. However, the services were so below par that it actually made it much more stressful. I chose this company because of two things: Steve was very polite and professional on the phone, and it had an A on the BBB. It turns out that although Steve was very nice, he didn't deliver on what was promised (primarily that everything would fit at a flate rate). Steve responded to my complaint about this by saying that the size of the truck was in the email contract so I should've known. I responded by telling him that I was going by what he assured me of on the phone, not by a size of a truck which I would have no idea how much would fit in. As far as the BBB, I truly have no idea how this company has an A-. It is very misleading. The price was great (before being charged extra), and Steve was very nice. Besides that, it was a disaster.
