Sorry in the delay getting this posted - but the holidays are over and I can now freely sit to type this out and say this is a Top Notch Moving Company!
I needed to move from California to Florida in Nov. 2011. I wasn’t exactly sure of my moving date but I checked out many moving Companies with my tentative date.
I didn't know if I should use a carrier who charged by weight or by cubic feet – all so confusing. After a lot of research and getting my inventory better evaluated, sized up, and complete, I decided to get quotes on both. I ultimately chose to go by weight as some of my items were bulky – like the huge rubber ball my son just won at Chuck E Cheese and HAD to take. My decision was more over concluded after talking to ‘Daniela’ at Grand Moving. She was such a help and it was easy to speak to her about all my questions about my life belongings. In the end, Daniela matched several other competitor prices and sealed the deal!
NOTE: Pay cash or by check. If you can avoid paying by credit card it will save you about $35 on credit card fees.
The day of my inventory move, 3 men arrived in a Penski truck, which scared the crap out of me. They assured me a lot of the companies are now using these smaller trucks to do the initial pick up as they are lower maintenance for the company. This made sense so I decided to put my faith in Daniela (and God) and went with it. The crew 'Diego' and 'Miguel' were great!!
One concern I had was there were 1 or 2 other pick-ups on the truck already. The only reason I was 'ok' with their explanation about HOW it would be weighed is my weight was about the same with all the other companies I had been quoted by - so I knew "approx" what my weight would be. In the end - I didn't see this weight bill till delivery and saw it was in the ballpark so was ok with it.
NOTE: BOX EVERYTHING…
The team moved very quickly and even tho I had put nearly everything I owned in boxes, I soon realized; I didn’t BOX enough.
If the man in charge feels an item needs to be in a box vs. a heavy duty plastic bag, then he boxes it. If you have loose clothing, pillows, or soft items; the wardrobe boxes are $25 each and an additional $15 for them to put your items into them.
I’m not sure what I was thinking as far as a mirror and large iron wall décor I had. This is an additional $15 for the box and an additional $15 for him to put it IN the box. After I asked if “I” could put it in the box, he said, “No, You can’t put it in the box or it won’t be insured”. I didn’t quite understand that part as I had put all my other items in boxes. So, $30 bucks for the mirror - That hurt.
NOTE: Put your mattresses in plastic wrap, if not, an additional $60 for EACH mattress (30 for the plastic cover/ 30 for them to put it in the cover). TV box is $75 and in the end, they used 15 rolls of box tape at $3.00 a roll = $45.
After all was said and done, I had incurred $400 bucks in supplies. Previously, Daniela had agreed several of my items would be packaged for free, so later after speaking with Sean at Grand Moving; they took $175.00 off the supplies portion of my bill.
NOTE: Need to have those agreed on ‘free’ packaged items on the contract prior to pick up.
My shipment was picked up in Calif. Nov 18 and arrived in Florida Dec 2, 2011 in a huge 45 ft Semi Truck; The 2 man drop off team was great! They were very friendly and fast. They even gave my son a candy bar! Major Koodoos!! Thank you Eddie and crew!
NOTE: Pay cash at delivery for and additional 2% off of the bill.
LAST NOTE!!: I would highly recommend “GRAND MOVING” for your across country moving needs!! I will definitely use them again if needed.
