My car began to make funny noises on my way to work, so during my lunch break I contacted Eli's to inquire what to do about it. They said to bring it in and that they would look at it. I asked if they would look at it and assess the problem for free. They said there was no charge, just bring it in. I asked them this twice. I brought my car in during my lunch break, and I gave a young woman my information and another young man looked underneath my car and noticed the muffler had fallen down. Realizing how bad the problem was, I told them I would come back for the car because I had to get back to work. They said that for me to leave the car and for them to assess the problem, there would be a fee, and I was frustrated because they did not talk about a fee over the phone. I was in a hurry to get back to work, so I asked the woman how much the fee was. She said she couldn't give me a direct number and then spoke for minutes about what kinds of work they had to do on my car. Finally, I cut her off and demanded a number. She said the diagnostic would cost $400 but that number would go into my repair if I chose to repair at Eli's. I was shocked by the price and even more shocked that they lured me there and gave me an exorbitant fee once they saw the state of my car. I was now late to work but I told them I would not use their services and I drove my car with its falling muffler back to work.
