I took my BMW to Dimitry Kamar at Culver Automotive to have the check engine light looked at. He plugged the computer into the car and charged me $120. I was fine with paying that because he said that since there was hardly any work done the $120 would be applied to any future repairs. He reset the light and said come back when it comes back on. The light came back on a few weeks later so I made an appointment with Dimity to bring the car in for an oil change and to have the computer read again.
While on the phone with him he again stated that the previous $120 would be applied. I trusted him and the next day I took the car in. Dimitry wasn’t there but the service guy was waiting for me to come in. He quoted me $180 for the oil change which he said would have the $120 applied, still nothing was in writing. I signed the paper and when I came back the guy was expecting $190 (the extra $10 was for them breaking my oil plug). I asked for the credit and he didn’t even acknowledge me. I refused to pay and asked him to please call Dimitry.
Here’s where it gets interesting. I talk to Dimitry and he says that because I didn’t come back sooner he was charging me the full price for the oil change and no credit. So I had given him $120 and now I was being asked to pay another $190. Who has ever heard of a $190 oil change??????? The BMW dealership doesn’t even charge that much. So I ask Dimitry to honor the credit for the $120 and he basically say, “You can do two things, either pay or call the cops”. This alone tells me he gone through this before and he knows what he’s doing and by not writing anything down I have no proof.
Culver City PD showed up and the officer was even appalled at what I was being charged. Unfortunately there was nothing that the police could do so he suggested that I pay and either sue him or dispute this with my credit card company.
I would not recommend Dimitry Kamar for automotive services. He’s very smart by not writing things down and seems to be making a career of this.
