A company calling itself ACS Legal Services (later after digging around the Internet I found out it was Affidavit Consolidation Services.) I found out they had been calling my job for two months. I thought it was a different bill collector and promptly told all of my real creditors to not call my job. Well on March 24 they called and told my supervisor they were calling from California and that I needed to contact them at (626-200-4646) within 24hrs or I would face legal action. They were extremely rude and hateful. I was not given the message until the next day. I called them and was a nervous wreck! I didn't know what was going on. The operator who spoke to me had a thick Indian/Middle-eastern accent, but tried to use an American sounding name. That should have tipped me off but I was too scared and nervous to pay attention. He gave me the last four digits of my social security and other personal information! He then proceeded to tell me that I had got a payday loan from Cash Advance for $250 which I, supposedly, never paid back but due to attorney fees and my state increasing the interest that payday loans where supposed to charge I now owed $1550. I told him that I was living on part-time weekly income and asked if I could set up a payment plan. He asked how much I made and I told him(SHOULDN’T HAVE) Guess what! He wanted my whole check! I explained that I had to have food and gas to get to work to make a check so he said he would accept $150 every week but first I had to pay him $100 within 2hrs or he would have to put a letter of neglect with the lawsuit affidavit and submit it to the judicial court of California. He said that after he received the money I would have to send them $500 by the end of Monday or the lawsuit would be filed. He wanted my bank account info but I told him no and would he accept a prepaid debit card. He stuttered at that but then decided it would be fine. I gave my card information (I canceled this card!) but he said first before he could take the money he would need me to fax an apology letter to Cash Advance stating I didn't purposely try to steal money from Cash Advance along with all of my information. I didn't like this but told him okay but I would have to get home first. After the call this is when everything started to hit me. There was no way any of this could be true. I got home and did some checking. I found 100s of reports about these guys. ABC News even did an article about these scammers (http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=5621205&page=1). After calming myself down and saying a quick prayer I called back. I told him that I had got a hold of my lawyer and he informed me that I should settle the whole matter in court and that I needed him to give me all of the information about his company and the company he is representing. He said that he could not give that information because it violated his client rights and I wouldn’t be able to go to court because as soon as the lawsuit was filed federal investigators would come and pick me up. Yeah, Right! I told him to at least send me written documents showing all this information but he refused. He told me if I didn't settle this account right now that he would file the lawsuit and he would contact my job and would garnish my check and health benefits because a woman named "Sophia" told him he could. I first told him that there was no woman named Sophia at my workplace and he could try to garnish my health benefits but good luck considering I don't have any. I then hung up. The same guy called me after his so-called business hours and left two threatening voice mails on my phone and my daughters'. They basically stated that I should rethink getting a lawyer and he was going to add to the lawsuit that I had given him wrong contact info, and he would be contacting my employer, have me fired, and make sure that the cops came and I was put in jail. His end with saying that I should contact him because he didn't want to violate my rights. THEY DON"T CARE about mine or anyone else's rights. This JERK almost had me. Don't let this happen to you. Do what I did! Contact the proper authorities, as wells as the FTC and the BBB. You can also go to www.annualcreditreport.com and get your yearly free credit report. I bet you won't find anything on there about being default on a payday loan. I printed of all the negative reports I had found on ACS and took them to my employer. She was amazed and said she would take care of them the next time they called. Be CAREFUL OF THESE SCAMMERS EVERYONE!
